Refined my mood board and picked my rules: 1st Edition AD&D. I wanted rules that felt as disorienting as the setting, and I wanted to stay in Gygax territory. I like how this is shaping up -- I'm starting to feel the setting. Time to start writing.
Gygax outlines the five steps you can take to get a setting, region, simple dungeon and town off the ground. He recommends completing all the steps in one week, because of course he does - he was batshit. I'm going to take a more relaxed approach. One step a week. Here's the beginning of step 1.
