I’ve mentioned that 1974 era OD&D is one of the games I’m most eager to run, and it looks like I’m finally going to have the chance. These are the house rules I intend to use.
OD&D has a free-wheeling toolbox feeling. However, the default races bring a distinctly Tolkien flavour to the game that I find off-putting, and frankly, kind of boring. So, I’ve developed an alternate approach to species creation that I hope will add more flavour to your game, and more prompts for world building.
One of my white whales is to run an OD&D campaign using the three LBBs, or at the very least a retroclone like Full Metal Plate Mail or Delving Deeper. I've never been able to find a form fillable PDF version of the character sheet, so I had a friend help me out. Here it is for your downloading pleasure.
This is the first working draft of the special rules, classes, loot, tables and enemies for the Full Metal Fists Setting. Inspired by martial arts movies and Hong Kong action, this setting adds furious fists and blazing gunfire to Index Card Roleplaying Game.
My mistake when I played ICRPG the first time was to forget it was a toolbox and that tools can be added to in order to create the game you want to play. What I was missing was character depth to transcend the mechanics.
This list provides an alternative way to mark milestones using specialized talents. A PC may have no more than one of these at a time, and they do not count as loot for encumbrance purposes – they are tags with mechanical muscle.
